Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment which can be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions.
To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery.
Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.
They may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.
Using many of the diagnostic procedures applied in conventional medical assessment, osteopaths seek to restore the optimal functioning of the body.
Osteopathy is based on the principle that the body has the ability to heal, and osteopathic care focuses on strengthening the musculoskeletal systems to treat existing conditions and to prevent illness.
Osteopaths' patient-centred approach to health and well-being means they consider symptoms in the context of the patient's full medical history, as well as their lifestyle and personal circumstances. This holistic approach ensures that all treatment is tailored to the individual patient.

Frequently
Asked Question's
Doe's
it hurt?
With some soft tissue treatments you may experience some discomfort but the osteopath will explain what to expect. There may be some discomfort the following day but this is very common. Any worries then feel free to contact the osteopath..
What
to expect on my first visit?
The osteopath will compile a full case history of your symptoms, as well as asking for information about your lifestyle and diet. You will be asked to remove clothing down to your underwear so the body can be examined. Osteopathy is a 'package' of care that includes skilled mobilising and manipulative techniques, reinforced by guidance on diet and exercise. The osteopath will discuss with you the most appropriate treatment plan, estimating the likely number of sessions needed to treat your condition effectively.
What should I wear?
As with most medical examinations you will be asked to dress down to your underwear so wear something that you feel comfortable in.
How
many treatments will i need?
The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient and condition. The osteopath will keep the number of treatments to a minimum.
